The Eighteenth Annual Utah Winter Finance Conference

CALL FOR PAPERS
Submission Deadline October 1, 2007

University of Utah
February 7-9, 2008

Announcing the partnership between the UWFC and the RFS!
When submitting a paper to the UWFC you will be given the option to have your paper reviewed for possible publication by the Review of Financial Studies free of charge.

To encourage authors to use the dual submission option for early drafts of their work, please note having a paper rejected via this option will not be considered a rejection by the RFS! Authors will remain free to submit their papers to the RFS through the standard review channels should they wish to do so. Authors of papers that are reviewed under the dual submission process will receive a copy of the RFS referee’s report

Please review the Restrictions & Qualifications before availing yourself of the dual submission option.

Rules for dual submission to the
Utah Winter Finance Conference & The Review of Financial Studies
1. You must check the box to indicate you are interested in consideration by the RFS.
2. Dual submissions will be reviewed by the UWFC program committee and will be made available for consideration by the RFS at no charge.
3. Papers submitted for dual consideration must not be under review at another journal or the RFS, nor can they be considered for dual submission if previously rejected by the RFS.
4. At the discretion of the RFS, dual submissions will be sent out for a formal referee report. If such a report is sought, then the paper’s author will receive a copy of the RFS reviewer’s report.
5. "Rejected" paper authors are permitted to submit a future version of their papers to the RFS without prejudice.
6. While under consideration by the UWFC and the RFS, a paper may not be submitted to another journal (or the RFS) until the author has been notified.

Further details along with forms with which to submit your paper (whether you wish to take advantage of the dual submission option or not) and register for the conference can be found at: http://www.utahwfc.org/ .

Dual Submission FAQ

Q: If I use the dual submission option when will I receive a decision from the RFS.
A: Initial decisions will probably not go out until the end of December. Furthermore, at that point you will only learn whether or not the RFS has decided to have your paper formally refereed.

Q: Would I receive a resubmit/rejection/acceptance decision in more or less time if I submitted my paper directly to the RFS?
A: Sending your paper directly to the RFS would produce a resubmit/rejection/acceptance decision in less time.

Q: Why does it take so long to receive an answer under the dual submission process?
A: Because, the RFS first has to wait for the conference reviews and they do not arrive until early December. If the additional delay from September to December is too much for you to bear, then you should send your paper directly to the RFS using the normal submission process.

Q: If I use the dual submission option will I receive a report of some sort from the RFS?
A: Not necessarily. If after looking over the conference reviews the RFS does not go forward with your paper you will not receive a report of any sort.

Q: As I read the dual submission rules if my paper is rejected at any point under this process I can still submit it to the RFS and have it reviewed via the normal process. There must be a catch. You cannot really mean that!
A: Well, actually it is what we mean! There is no catch. If your paper is rejected under the dual submission process (at any point in time) then you are free to submit it, unchanged if you like, to the RFS via the standard submission process.

Q: Last year how many dual submissions were there and how many went out for a formal review?
A: Last year we received 68 papers under the dual submission process. (Actually, several authors forgot to check the dual submission box on the web page when they submitted their paper so technically there were a bit over 70 such submissions. Alas, the RFS and UWFC only knew about 68 of them. Be sure this does not happen to you!) Of those 68 papers we sent 18 out for formal reviews.
